The Miller Family in the Colony

This exhibit provides the first serious examination of the Miller family in colony life. Samuel Miller was one of Dr. Keil’s most committed early followers. Martha Miller married Dr. Martin Giesy. Gertrude Schuele married Joseph Miller and Jacob Miller, who never married, moved back and forth between Bethel and Aurora managing transactions between the two sites. In 1928 Edward Miller, then Automobile Editor for the Oregonian newspaper, wrote a long story about “King Keil” and the colony that drew on his intimate knowledge of the community. Several major donations have come to the museum in recent years from previously unknown Miller relatives and we look forward to sharing this fascinating story with you.
