Aurora's Flower Garden: 51st Annual Quilt Show!

Aurora’s Flower Garden

The Aurora Colony Historical Society is pleased to present Aurora’s Flower Garden, our 51st quilt show.  This year we’ve taken our inspiration from the Emma Wakefield Herb Garden located in the museum courtyard and all things floral!
This year’s event features:

  • Display of quilts including quilted clothing.

  • Historic quilts from the Aurora Colony (1856-1883) from the Old Aurora Colony Museum and private collections.

  • Featured Quilter: Jeannie Pickens of the Oswego Quilters. Pickens learned quilting from her grandmother Myra Mae and fellow quilters in the Oswego Quilters. She has several quilts listed in the Oregon Quilt Project.

  • Raffle quilt: You may be the lucky winner of the Aurora's Flower Garden quilt created from the winning blocks in the 2022 Block Contest.

  • Quilt shop with great deals on quilt supplies, fabric, quilt frames, machines, notions, and more!

  • Prizes for People’s Choice and Best of Theme.

  • Block contest for next year’s raffle quilt, Stars Over Aurora. Block contest fabric is available now at the Old Aurora Colony Museum Thursday-Saturday 11am-4pm or call 503-678-5754 or email info@auroracolony.org to receive by mail.

Fat Quarter Pumpkins

 Aurora Historic Quilting

Suggested Donation: $8
Learn about the history and art of the quilting craft that go into the Old Aurora Colony Museum's collections quilts, and the history of the craft itself. See them come to life before your eyes from Grandma Rachel herself, from Dallas, OR. Limited seating.

9 Patch Quilt Block and Variations Demonstration

Suggested Donation: $15
Learn about the quintessential 9-patch quilt block pattern and of its variable styles. See a demonstration of how to make one, and the many uses for quilt blocks for your home and gifts.

Sign ups for more, in-depth classes in the Kraus House parlor for our growing quilting program; from learning how to make your quilt blocks into home gifts and accessories, to how to use a sewing machine!


Stars Over Aurora
2023 Quilt Block Contest

The sky is the limit with your creativity in this block contest. Get all the details here.

Note: We have run out of the block fabric. Fabric information: Snowy Brook Stars in the Sky in Midnight Dark Blue by Robert Kaufman

Let your creativity loose with your block design. Twenty winning squares will be pieced and hand quilted by the Old Aurora Colony Hand Quilters, then raffled as a fundraiser for the museum during the 2024 Old Aurora Colony Museum Quilt Show. Winners receive a special prize bag.

Quilt Blocks are due at the Museum no later than 4pm on Sunday, October 22nd for judging. Winners will be announced following the show.

Quilts can be brought to the Old Aurora Colony Museum on the following days/times:

  • Tuesday, September 26th from 11am-4pm

  • Wednesday, September 27th from 10am-1pm

  • Thursday, September 28th from 11am-4pm

  • Friday, September 29th from 11am-4pm

Please contact the Museum for arrangements outside of those times.
Quilters entering a quilt in Aurora’s Flower Garden will receive a coupon for $2 off of a 1-day ticket to the Quilt Show.

The museum has a limited number of sleeves available for loan. Exceptions may be made for non-traditional quilts that do not require hanging for display or historically significant quilts. Please contact the museum to determine whether your submission qualifies.


Raffle Quilt

Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the show. You do not need to be present to win. The quilt is almost finished and should measure approx. 72” x 86” once complete.

Volunteer at the Show
Help make the show a success and volunteer for a shift during the show or help with pre-show preparations and post-show wrap-up. Volunteer activities include handing out programs and assisting guests, quilt shop and raffle sales, and providing a watchful eye over the quilts on display. Explore volunteer opportunities here.

All volunteers during the show receive one free admission to Aurora's Flower Garden.
